More Ideas for Civil Rights Holiday Tabletop T-shirts
literally impossible to improve upon this
I didn't see the Goodman Games DCC RPG MLK DAY official tshirt until after MLK Day, but it's still before the Dallas MLK parade so I'm still on time in Texas, which is all that matters.
Aside: Dallas is the largest city in America run by a Republican mayor, a Black man who switched parties while in office. It's now ok to call Eric Johnson a c**ned-out race traitor; we couldn't say it when he was waging war on poor folks and destroying historic Black Dallas at the behest of his real estate / megachurch / Fortune 500 teat-suckling masters, but we can say it now bc he's doing all that under the other team's banner.
Anyways, this tshirt brought me to tears. I finally felt SEEN by the old/new schooldream renavolution's cognoscenti. This is what we've (a spiritual 'we', my own ancestors were herding camels in the Hawd during Reconstruction) been fighting for. When I stopped sobbing, though, I realized how twisted it is that I haven't gotten a cut. What the hell??? Goodman Games had the gall to sell a Black History shirt without consulting me, self-appointed race man of indie tabletop blogging?? Where's my taste, you fuckers? It's literally theft. I don't care if they give a percentage to charity (liberal, bad, goes to other people) bc they should be giving back to gaming communities of color directly (radical, good, goes into my pockets.) Dr. King was a Christian or something, so I'll forgive you Goodman Games...IF you put in the work to repair our relationship and vow to do better. Here's your chance to make things right; I'm presenting some more designs for tabletop rpg shirts connected to public holidays celebrating civil rights. You can get in touch with my people (enziramire@gmail.com; serious business inquiries only) when you're ready to talk contracts.
Transit Equality Day
This one is easy as fuck. Mike Pondsmith and Rosa Parks in an Orbital Air spaceplane, hanging with some Highriders (mostly Black ones, but throw in some of the other coloreds for aesthetic purposes.) I'm sure Pondy won't even notice, bro's probably swimming in that anime/video game/tie-in merchandise money.
Juneteenth
Near and dear to my heart. One day we will have a reckoning about how getting national attention killed the spirit of this holiday. Texas Juneteenth is a party! And not a fucking Atlanta scene type party either. We'll bring Juneteenth back to its Lone Star roots with this design: Barbara Jordan as a Notfrican technobarbarian from LotFP's World of the Lost, blasting a Confederate dinosaur (kepi, grey coat, cavalry saber) with a laser six-shooter. Now here's the genius bit: throw in a white lady hanging off her all Conangirllike. Yeah that's right, Barb's lesbianism gives us a twofer on diversity. We're tearing this shit up.
Malcolm X Day
Let's face it boys, you need a blackaman with a bit of edge to round things out. Not too much edge, though, so early Malc is out. You gotta show people that this is peaceful Sunnipilled Malc, Malcolm the Martyr - and there lies your answer. The shirt is reformed orc Malcolm getting shot to death by Nation of Isengard uruk-homeboys (orcishness for evil, it's not a racial thing.) They should be in dark suits but using crossbows or blowguns or something. Don't want it to read as Shadowrun pastiche, we already did cyberpunk.
Feel free to add more ideas in the comments for me to steal and present as my own. Please provide a link to your Big Y paternal line haplogroup test results so I can confirm that you're allowed to make the joke.
Ok so this one's for Rosa Parks Day, it's Rosa and a bunch of crackkka-ass wizards riding a dragon (Rosa is a wizard too in this shirt-image) - the crackkka-ass wizards are comfortably seated on the dragon's back, reclining on silk pillows or somesuch, while Rosa is stuck hanging for dear life from its tail. She has a speech bubble saying "Aw hell nah!!" or something suitably & righteously indignant.
ReplyDeleteGeorge Washington Carver Day... something about GWC as some kind of peanut wizard, destroying some goblins saying Black people haven't invented anything by having his peanut butter cubes devour & dissolve them.
The Rosa Parks Day shirt concept kinda has the energy of one of those wild family reunion tshirts, would love to wear that around like the MLK shirt (and maybe the Barbara Jordan shirt idea.)
DeletePeanut wizard makes me think of Spongebob's Goofy Goober rock n roll wizard getup at the end of the first movie. I'd like to work that in.
